Online Parallelogram Area Calculator

Just enter the base and height of the parallelogram below and click Calculate Area. Use a period or comma as the decimal separator.

Parallelogram Area Calculator

A = b × h
Base (b):
Height (h):

Answer:

How to use the calculator

  1. Enter the Base (b) of the parallelogram.
  2. Enter the Height (h) perpendicular to the base.
  3. Select the unit of measurement.
  4. Click Calculate Area to see the result.

Formula for the area of a parallelogram

The area of a parallelogram is calculated by multiplying the base by the height:

A = b × h

Where b is the base and h is the perpendicular height (not the oblique side). A rectangle is a special case of the parallelogram, with height equal to the perpendicular side.

Practical examples

Base (b) Height (h) Area (A = b × h)
8 m 5 m 40 m²
10 cm 6 cm 60 cm²
12 m 7 m 84 m²
6.5 cm 4 cm 26 cm²
15 mm 9 mm 135 mm²

Frequently asked questions

What is the formula for the area of a parallelogram?

The area is A = b × h, where b is the base and h is the perpendicular height. Example: base 8 m and height 5 m → A = 40 m².

What is the difference between the height and the oblique side?

The height is the perpendicular distance between the parallel bases. The oblique side is the inclined side of the parallelogram. The formula uses the height, not the oblique side.

Is a rectangle a parallelogram?

Yes. A rectangle is a parallelogram with all angles equal to 90°. In this case, the height coincides with the perpendicular side, and the formula A = b × h is the same.

Can I use a comma instead of a decimal point?

Yes. This calculator accepts both comma and period as the decimal separator.
